Search and Rescue: Update CampNaNo 3

So… it’s been a few weeks. Sorry about that….

I’ve been having some trouble with getting the writing done this month, so as a result, I ended up changing my Camp NaNoWriMo goal to 10,000 words, rather than 35,000.

And I am pleased to say that this goal, I actually managed to achieve!

I (just about 10 minutes ago) hit 10,009 words for CampNaNo, and I have plans to get at least a bit more writing done tonight. (Probably not a lot, but some.)

Search and Rescue: Update CampNaNo 2

So, second week of Camp NaNo is here. I’ve managed to write at least a bit every day; I haven’t been writing the daily word count goal, unfortunately, but I’m still making progress.

Chp. 9 is being quite difficult, so I’m doing some skipping around with it, and planning to go back to fill in the gaps later. I’ve also done some planning in terms of how I want the rest of the story to go, which might be part of why Chp. 9 is so difficult – it’s a pause of sorts in the action, and my PlotBunnies want to get to the rest of the stuff! (Plus, figuring out what to do about the serious second degree burns covering the protagonist’s entire back, as well as the back of his arms and legs, when he can’t use the drug that helps speed up the healing of soft tissue damage because of allergies, has also been difficult.)

I’m hoping that by skipping through the parts of the chapter that the Plot Bunnies don’t want to deal with, I’ll be able to start writing more each day, but this month hasn’t been off to the greatest start in the first place, so….

Well, here’s hoping that the next week goes well on the writing front and on the not hurting myself any more front! (Spending the eclipse on the ground because I tripped, because my bad ankle twisted, trying to move over to a rock so that I could stand up, was not fun. Got some nice shadow pictures, but still.)

Search and Rescue: Update CampNaNo 1

So, you may remember the last post I put up, Real Life: 1; S&R: 0, wherein I mentioned the whole “Bad Luck in Health” issue, and declared that quite likely, I would be doing the rewrite for CampNaNoWriMo April?

Well, here we are, and yes, I have actually started the rewrite!

I’ve set my CampNaNo goal as 35,000 words, since the remaining chapters number 6 out of a total of 14.

I’ve gotten off to a bit of a slow start, but I am bound and determined to finish it this month!

(Now I’ve just got to get back on the HaliWrimo discord….)

Real Life 1; S&R 0

So, remember way back, a month and a half ago, when I proudly announced that I was determined to finish the second draft of Search and Rescue by the end of March (or possibly the end of April), and that I’d update on my progress every week?

Yeah. So.

As you can probably tell from the title of this post, Real Life got in the way.

Search and Rescue: Update 1

Hey, everyone, it’s the Week 1 update on Search and Rescue!

As it turns out, I had finished Chp. 8 and got a few paragraphs into Chp. 9 previously (I was just halfway through Chp. 8 for several years, and forgot I’d finished that one up), so that’s a bit less that I have to get re-written!

This past week has involved re-reading what I have already written, and also poking at the first draft to see bits I want to keep, or to keep slightly modified, and little bits and pieces of information that I dropped in the first draft that I want to slip into the re-write in some way or another.

Search and Rescue Completion Plans

Hello, everyone! Yes, it’s been… well, ages. I have updated my other blogs semi-recently, but this blog – my blog for my original, publishable stories, is now going into active status.

For the very simple reason that I fully intend to get the second draft (aka the rewrite) of Search and Rescue (Psi Department Book 1, my 2008 NaNoWriMo novel) finished by the end of March (or, if worse comes to worst, the end of April), and have it ready to be published before the end of this year. I’m currently in the middle of Chp. 8 of 14, and have been for a few years now, so I’d really like to get this finished and done with.

Medical Marvel: Bioglass

So, because I’m a science-fiction writer, I try to stay at least semi-abreast of interesting (and new) scientific discoveries/creations. After all, the more “real world” elements I can have in the background of a story, the easier it is for readers to suspend their disbelief and just enjoy the story I’ve written. So I may end up putting particularly fascinating facts up here for those interested.

Both my father and one of my best friends (C. R. Chancy/crossoverqueen) like certain news sites (BBC and Daily Science respectively), and share what looks interesting. And today’s post is about one of those.

BBC: The best way to fix broken bones might be with glass

A fascinating article about a type of glass called “bioglass”, which has already started making a difference as a medical material to help with problems with bones. There are now three different “types” of bioglass – the brittle type whose traits we tend to think of when we think of “glass”; a flexible and “bouncy” type that may help with broken leg bones (the article explains why and how); and a type that has a rubbery texture, that they hope will help with the repair of cartilage. (The article calls that “the holy grail of orthopaedic surgery”.)

It’s a fascinating article, and one to make us think.

Until next time,

So, every year I do NaNoWriMo, I maintain a progress report page on my website. (Once I really get this site going, I’ll have a copy on here as well.) Feel free to check it out (and cheer me on)!

NaNoWriMo 2015: Accidental Romance

So, it’s November. And we all know what November means, right?

Yep, it’s NaNoWriMo time again! Yay!

This year, I’m doing something… semi-different, let’s say. Not as different as last year (when I did a fanfic), but not with quite the same sort of tone as my other stories.

Heh. Its working title is Accidental Romance for a reason.

Science-fiction (because last year, fanfic or no, was a fantasy, and my Bunnies tend to like switching them out), and inspired by Crossover Queen’s Count Taka and the Vampire Brides. Not nearly the same – Count Taka is very definitely supernatural fantasy – but definitely inspired by.

Twenty years ago, the Hre’Eaki were discovered by the Interstellar Confederacy. Another alien race with the technological advances to travel FTL, but no interest in doing so.

Hideki Akayagi is a graduate student at Heian University on Nara, doing his Masters in Folklore. Sru’Kivir is the third and youngest child of the leader of the Sru Clan. When Hideki is chosen as one of the students for the Hre’Eaki Cultural Exchange Program, they meet.

And then the real fun begins.

Now, where did I leave those files on Earth animals that change sex….
